This form was on my design table for a long time and I finally finished it with the heavy texture on a whim and loved it. I have no idea why it's a Loch Ness monster. This ring was a demo piece to teach lost wax casting. I started it and of course didn't have time to finish it while teaching. My student's love doing lost wax casting and keep me very busy. They thought the ring design was a bit weird but were inspired to be creative after they saw my work. I'm really pleased with the final casting. It has wonderful weight to it. The "head" can also drop sideways over your next finger and create an interesting wearing effect of two rings.
Lost wax casting starts with some delicate carving of the form into a piece of wax. The wax is then invested into a plaster like material to form a perfect mold of the wax form. The wax is melted from the mold in a kiln and while the mold is still hot, silver is melted and poured into the mold. The ring is then carefully inspected, cleaned, and finished. Waa...laa...a beautiful ring.
This is a one of a kind original; full ounce of silver; size 9; stands 1" (2.5cm) above the finger; 1-3/4"(4cm) wide and 3/4"(2cm) deep.
